It’s not something you see everyday, but a group of bearded men with mermaid tales spent much of Saturday donating blood in St. John’s.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Beard and Moustache Club teamed up with Canadian Blood Services for their December Group Volunteer Event.
The Merb’ys posted up at the Canadian Blood Services Clinic on Wicklow Street in St. John’s yesterday and more than 30 people showed up to donate blood of their own.
Just chatted with Mark White, a 2019 MerB’y who is at the Canadian Blood Services Clinic on Wicklow Street in St. John’s as part of the NL Beard & Moustache Club Blood Drive. Over 40 hours went into making this seal skin tail. @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/GzAMOH0shE

Merb’y spokesman Mark White says numbers were down slightly from their previous blood drive, but he says it probably has to do with the busy holiday season. He says he expects the numbers of people donating blood to go back up again at their next drive.
White says The Merby’s just want to help anywhere they can. He says being in the position that they are, and having different causes like Haircuts for Hope, blood drives and food bank drives, they like to help out in anyway they can. This is just part of what they do.
