RNC are investigating the cause of a fire that caused extensive damage to a downtown St. John’s row house.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department was called to the Monroe Street area just after 9:00 a.m. yesterday after smoke was noticed coming from the eaves of the building.
Nearby homes were evacuated and a number of pets removed from properties where the owners were not home.
Platoon Chief Tony Renouf says the residents of number 54 won’t be able to go back anytime soon.
Smoke from the fire affected the adjacent properties. Barry and Sophie Hamlyn had just purchased the house next door and received the call while they were at work. They’re very thankful that the fire department was able to rescue their two boxers, one of which is quite large.
