Mount Pearl Mayor Randy Simms is defending his city’s decision to use clear garbage bags like those in use in central Newfoundland.
The change has ruffled some feathers in the city, with people concerned about privacy issues, and whether there will be penalties for those who aren’t recycling the right things.
Mayor Simms told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly says recycling has always been mandatory in the city. He says it’s not about what people are recycling, but making sure that people who are not recycling, start doing so.
Simms sees all the buzz created by the move as very positive.
He says the talk alone might help solve the issue of people not recycling.
