A project now underway at Memorial University hopes to tap into the riches found in our waters off our shores in many different ways. “COASTS”, an acronym for the Cold Oceans and Arctic Science Technology Society, is a project now underway through the Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development.
Dr. Rob Greenwood of the Harris Centre says many universities in the world are involved in ocean research, but Memorial is a world leader when it comes to cold ocean research.
He says COASTS cuts across all campuses of Memorial including the Marine Institute, Grenfell and Labrador campuses.
Greenwood says Memorial has brought about $400-million into the province in through research.
