  • NAPE Members Rally Over Work Conditions on ‘Eve of a Crisis’

A loud group of NAPE members held a demonstration outside of Pleasant View Towers on Newfoundland Drive in St. John’s this afternoon to voice their concerns around work conditions.

NAPE members say they are at the eve of a crisis.

Understaffing, working short, unfair changes to leave provisions, refusal of leave, being mandated to stay at work and other issues related to their work and work conditions are some of the concerns voiced by members and supporters outside of the Towers.

NAPE President, Jerry Earle says they are at a breaking point. He says these issues have caused significant stress and strain on members and are affecting the vital care and services they provide.

Things like “tired and stressed” and “we need our leave” were chanted loudly throughout the demonstration, while a number of those in passing honked their horns in support.

Earle says they know these circumstances exist in other facilities across the province, and this may be the first of many demonstrations like this, if these issues are not adequately addressed.
