The St.John’s International Airport Authority says it had a court order preventing National Airlines from leaving St.John’s Friday afternoon because of arrears in airport fees.
The airport authority says National Airlines have told them that all passengers who were scheduled to fly out on Friday have been protected through either a rebooking on other airlines or through receipt of a full refund.
The airport says the National Airlines plane, a Boeing 757, will not be released until outstanding payments are received.
National began operating the St.John’s-Orlando flight last January.
Airport officials will have more to say on the matter on Monday.
Meanwhile, Woody French, who has been lobbying for years for an Airline Passengers Bill of Rights, says anything less than specific legislation by the federal government will fail to fix the problem.
