The province is another step closer in implementing net metering.
Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro have submitted net metering policy applications to the Public Utilities Board.
Back in 2015, the previous Tory administration announced a new net metering policy framework, but questions on the implementation of the policy were raised when little progress appeared to be made.
The policy would allow people to sell power generated through wind or solar generation back to the grid.
The province’s Environmental Industry Association is pleased with the latest development.
The matter now lies with the P.U.B.
Natural Resources Minister Pleased with Progress
Natural Resources Minister Siobhan Coady says she’s pleased to see some progress in getting net metering established in the province.
She says it’s unfortunate the previous administration took so long to put a policy in place.
Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the few provinces in Canada that has not yet established net metering.
