Phase one of the expansion of St. John’s Airport opens today.
This part of the project focused on an expanded security area, and an double-sized departures lounge, feature a full Yellow Belly restaurant and Newfoundland Chocolate Company.
Despite the slow-down in the economy, YYT has seen no decrease in incoming or outgoing traffic. The next part of the expansion will focus on the arrival area according to Chair of the Board of Directors for the airport, Art Cheeseman.
He says they are installing a new baggage handling system, better customs area and new facilities for pickup and public transportation, among other improvements.
