The Atlantic Lottery Corporation has introduced the province’s newest Set For Life Winners today.
After some serious contemplation and a little financial advice, Paul and Reta Boland, of Mount Pearl, have decided to take the Set For Life lump sum payout of $675,000.
Paul, who is an account manager selling electrical supplies, says he purchased the ticket as a 50th birthday gift to himself and he was shocked when he scratched a winner. He and Reta were sitting at the kitchen table together when Paul sudden handed the half scratched ticket to his wife, so could confirm what he was seeing.
The couple have two children who they will share the winnings with and the parents describe what it was like breaking the news to their kids.
Reta says they told their children first and says they told them they had something very serious to discuss. She says they told their oldest daughter her student loan was taken care of. Paul says she couldn’t hold back the tears of joy and excitement in learning her education is paid for in full.
