Residents and businesses in Conception Bay South will not be paying any more taxes in 2019.
The town brought down its municipal operating budget this evening. The budget comes in at $37.8-million, that’s down by over half-a-million over Budget 2018.
Mayor Terry French says the town’s primary goal was to ensure there were no increases in taxes, and no increases in rates or fees.
French says they made changes, for example, at the community swimming pool to ensure better snow clearing. He says these are moves that needed to be made to focus on the core values of the community.
$6-million will be spent on pavement in 2019. That includes $1-million on patchwork and sidewalk upgrades. Mayor French says that is money spent on safety for local children.
He points out Route 60 is a four-lane highway, and many kids walk that road to school.
