Construction of the North Spur dam for Muskrat Falls is now complete.
Gilbert Newfoundland and Labrador Contracting announced today that work was done to further strengthen and protect the North Spur dam. People in the area are concerned about the stability of the North Spur.
Gilbert says it focused on slope stabilization and erosion protection for the natural North Spur dam. The company says it constructed cut-off walls, regraded the upstream and downstream slopes of the North Spur, and installed erosion protection. Equipment was installed to enable monitoring of the area.
Maxime Gilbert, project manager, says the project was completed safely and on time. At peak employment, more than 200 Newfoundlanders and Labradorians worked on the project.
