The Minister of Municipal Affairs says more must be done to address post traumatic stress disorder affecting our province’s first responders.
Eddie Joyce says PTSD was one of the bigger topics discussed last weekend at the Fire Association’s AGM in Gander.
He says they work closely with both career and volunteer firefighters province-wide, and he says based on what was discussed at last weekend’s conference, more must be done for all first responders.
Another topic was our reliance on telecommunications. This after an outage on the first day of the conference, taking down cell service for several hours. Joyce says we’re so dependent on telecommunications, that when an emergency happens, it’s too late to prepare.
Joyce says residents need to know where the nearest landline is, and emergency room.
