C&W Industrial Fabrication and Marine Limited in Bay Bulls, has been sub-contracted to build and install the production line for the vessel, helping OCI to process groundfish at sea, delivering market-ready product.
President of OCI, Blaine Sullivan, Dennis Crane of C&W, and MP Seamus O’Regan made the announcement at C&W in Bay Bulls this morning.
The federal government is pitching in a repayable sum of $3.5-million, while Ocean Choice is investing $3.5-million of their own. The new vessel will create approximately 70 new full-time jobs at sea, mainly for employees in rural areas.
Efficiency components and technology into the design and build of the production line and vessel will lead to a clean class designation, or “Green Ship”, which will be a first for a Canadian groundfish vessel.
Construction on the ship began last summer, and Ocean Choice hopes to have it ready for sail by next year.
