St. John’s mayor Dennis O’Keefe isn’t saying just yet whether he is running again for council, but he was quick to take a swipe at another mayoral candidate.
Current Ward 1 Councillor Danny Breen, newcomer Renee Sharpe and former St. John’s mayor Andy Wells have all announced their intentions to run for mayor in the upcoming election.
Wells has been highly critical of council as of late targeting Breen, O’Keefe and Councillor Jonathan Galgay for what he calls frivolous spending by the city, rising salaries and outlandish taxes.
O’Keefe says although it’s good to have a lot of people running, it would be a mistake to have Wells sitting in the mayors chair.
He says the old days are gone and the city has a whole new level of leadership now.
O’Keefe says if Wells gets in it will be one of the most regressive steps the city has ever taken.
O’Keefe plans to make his intentions known early next week .
