  • Paradise to Host Top Sledge Hockey Players for 2019 Tournament

Some of the best sledge hockey players around will be in Paradise later this year for a national-level tournament.

Paradise Mayor Dan Bobbett announced the 2019 Candian Tire Para Hockey Cup this morning at the Double Ice Complex. He says he expects a spinoff benefit of about $1-million for Paradise and surrounding areas.

The tournament is going to take place the first week of December, 2019.

Paralympic silver medalist Liam Hickey practices out of the Double Ice Complex with the Avalon Sledge Dogs. He says he’s very excited to be involved with the tournament.

Hickey says he’s been waiting for this moment for a long time, and credits his father, Todd, for helping develop the sport.

Hockey NL President Jack Lee says the organization is very involved with sledge hockey. It took a while, but he says it’s certainly a worthwhile endeavor for Hockey NL to be involved with the sport.

They don’t have a complete list of teams taking part in the tournament yet, but once it all comes together, information on tickets will be made available.
