The City of St. John’s has officially opened the Paul Johnson Memorial Park—a brand new playground located at the Paul Reynolds Community Centre in the east end.
Paul Johnson founded Johnson Insurance in 1949, and kickstarted the Johnson Family Foundation 40 years later. He wanted to give back to the city and province he loved so much.
Johnson passed away in 2015, but his legacy lives on through the Grand Concourse, Johnson GEO Centre, Coastal Railway Museum, and now the Paul Johnson Memorial Park.
His wife Sally says he loved children, and he was brought much joy to see them play. Today she says he would be so proud to see the new playground.
The park is fully accessible, and includes swings, slides, monkey bars and more.
St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen says Johnson gave to so much in the city, and they wanted to honour his contributions.
Fittingly, the new playground overlooks the very trail system that Johnson built.
