A group dedicated to helping people cope with mental illness has planned community events to help those who have lost loved ones to suicide.
Etsy Vardy is the co-founder of Pawsology, a group that helps facilitate a bond between psychiatric service dogs and people with mental illness.
They are hosting an event at the Gypsy Tea Room in St. John’s tomorrow during National Suicide Prevention Week called “Notice.”
Vardy says the evening will include a discussion surrounding photographs of individuals who have attempted suicide at one point or another in their lives. She says the event aims to show people the warning signs that a loved one might need help.
On October 6th at the Farmers Market in Clarenville, they are hosting a Tribute Concert to honour those lost to suicide.
She says often, the families of those lost by suicide don’t have the opportunity to celebrate the lives of their loved ones because of the way in which they died.
