  • Pay Should Be Linked to Voter Participation: Oldford

The outgoing president of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador would like to see our pay packets linked to voter participation.

Voter turnout in municipal elections has been notoriously low, although some towns and cities enjoyed a high turnout this time around.

Employers have to give workers four consecutive hours off in order to vote, but MNL President Karen Oldford would like to see the legislation go a step further and require people to prove that they actually voted.

People who take the four hours but don’t vote would not be paid for the time off.
