Former Premier Brian Peckford, who condemned the Muskrat Falls hydro project a couple of weeks ago, is now calling for a forensic audit to be launched immediately.
Premier Dwight Ball says there will be some type of probe into the project, which has gone way over-budget, but not until it is built. The premier doesn’t want to risk Muskrat Falls, which is already two years behind schedule, being delayed further. However, Peckford doubts that a forensic audit would result in any further delay.
Peckford, who asked then-premier Kathy Dunderdale back in 2012 to do an independent review, says to do an audit a few years from now will be too late with new circumstances and different political dynamics. He says there has been a lack of accountability and transparency right from the start.
Criticism of Muskrat Falls prompted its creator—former premier Danny Williams—to come out swinging, calling Muskrat Falls a good project.
