Some of the residents of Kelly’s Brook Apartments, a seniors complex located on Empire Avenue in St. John’s, will not be sleeping in their own beds tonight thanks to a burst pipe.
St. John’s Regional Fire Department Platoon Chief Paul Chaytor says a sprinkler pipe burst on the third floor of the complex, causing water to spread to other levels of the building. He says some significant damage occurred as a result.
The Salvation Army and the Red Cross were both called in due to the frigid temperatures that have taken a hold on the province in recent days. They provided warm drinks, food and clothing to the displaced residents.
Chaytor says alternate arrangements will be made for the displaced residents tonight, and that they are hoping to have everyone back in their homes tomorrow.
