Members of the public are asking questions after an alarming advisory issued by RNC yesterday.
The Constabularly issued a public advisory regarding 54-year-old Barry Edward Sinclair, a man also known as the Sleepwatcher, who is now living in the St. John’s area and who they believe will commit a violent offence against a woman.
Sinclair was sentenced to five years in prison after he was convicted in Nova Scotia of breaking into a woman’s home while she was still inside. He was released in February of this year.
On his release, the RNC sought an application to have Sinclair placed on a recognizance under the Criminal Code of Canada to restrict his movements. He was subsequently arrested and placed on a court order which will remain in place until the application for a recognizance has been concluded in court.
The RNC is reminding the public to exercise regular precautions when securing their homes, such as ensuring that windows and doors are locked and that residences have adequate outdoor lighting.
Police have not revealed where Sinclair is living, leading to heightened fear in the community. RNC are asking the public to report all suspicious activity to the RNC at 729-8000 or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
