A 48-year-old man from Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s will return to court next month for alleged animal neglect. The man is also facing weapons charges after police seized several firearms from his home.
On September 18, 2018, police responded to a complaint at a home on Western Gully Pond Road in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s.
It’s alleged that 48-year-old Robert Picco threatened a man with a weapon. As a result, he was charged with uttering threats and three weapons-related offences.
On the same day, police executed a search warrant at Picco’s residence, seizing a long list of firearms and ammunition, including five 12-gauge shotguns, three rifles, and two sticks of dynamite.
Two days later on September 20, the RNC laid an additional eight charges against Picco, this time for alleged animal neglect. He’s facing four counts of willfully causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal, and four counts of neglecting to provide adequate food, water, shelter and care to an animal.
All eight charges list a dog as the animal in question.
Picco’s matter was called in court yesterday. It was set over to late June to enter a plea.
