  • HMP Protester Arrested for Allegedly Uttering Threats

A man who has been protesting for better programs and services at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary has been taken into custody by police.

Mark Gruchy, the lawyer representing Mike Williams, posted on Facebook on Wednesday evening that Williams was taken into custody and is being held overnight. Williams made a brief court appearance this afternoon on two counts of uttering threats.

Williams’ case is scheduled to be called in Provincial Court in the morning, and Gruchy says while Williams is feeling stressed, he’s remaining calm.

Gruchy says he is coordinating with duty counsel and the Crown to move the process along as smoothly as possible.

Meanwhile, supporters are continuing the effort to protest outside the Penitentiary.
