Protesters in Labrador are making sure the biggest issue of 2016 doesn’t fade away in the new year.
Protesters gathered at the gates of Muskrat Falls yesterday to kick off the new year in opposition to the multi-billion dollar megaproject.
Denise Cole says the agreement struck in October between indigenous leaders and the provincial government to mitigate issues surrounding the project is only the beginning.
She says the agreement didn’t address the downstream impact of the North Spur or fears of flooding but gave government the opportunity to tell everyone to go home.
Cole says it’s time the people of the province realize Muskrat Falls is a major mistake that needs to end once and for all.
She says if the government follows through with Muskrat Falls it is a mistake that will haunt the Newfoundland and Labrador government through history but protesters are mobilizing to make sure it doesn’t happen.
