The provincial government is touting the benefits of a brand new cannabis production and supply agreement with Biome Grow Inc, announced this morning in St. George’s.
The local operation will be run by Back Home Medical Cannabis Corporation, launched by entrepreneur Dave Callahan. Barachois Brook will be the home of a new production facility, being constructed in two phases. Construction is expected to finish by March 31, 2020.
Back Home has committed to supply up to 24,000 kg in product over the next three years. 4,000 kg in 2019, then 10,000 kg each over the next two years.
The province projects over $15-million in revenue over the next five years.
Biome Grow says the production facility will create 120 jobs, which according to the agreement, will be maintained for the next 20 years.
Khurram Malik of Biome Grow Inc. says the facility is going to be their largest in Canada, calling it their ‘Crown Jewel.’ Though they’re present in Ontario, Nova Scotia, and expect to launch in New Brunswick soon, he says the NL project is their biggest.
The province says the agreement sets a guaranteed cannabis supply of a minimum of 40,000 kg over the next three years.
