  • Province Releases Data on Muskrat Falls Methylmercury Levels

Data collected under the Methylmercury Monitoring Plan has been released publicly.

Monitoring of methylmercury levels at the Muskrat Falls Reservoir, downstream, and Lake Melville are included in the figures, as well as an assessment of changes in methylmercury levels in water and sediment in the flooded area.

Government says the initial data collected will represent a baseline for methylmercury and will be compared for future monitoring.

Government says the current data shows that methylmercury levels in the reservoir as well as the downstream river and Lake Melville are near or less than the level of detection and “in keeping with levels found naturally in the environment”.
