The provincial government says it remains committed to the restoration of Colonial Building. The multi-million dollar project was supposed to have been completed by the fall of 2015.
The public may have noticed that work in the area appears to have ground to a halt. Officials say exterior building work was completed in 2016, however unanticipated conditions were discovered during construction that require additional design work and a revised strategy.
The Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation says the remainder of the interior finish is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, a contract has been awarded to create an Interior Finishes Mock Room. That’s a room that will help officials use and test various finishes to ensure what works best. That component of the project will begin shortly. Completion of the interior building repairs and specialty finishes will continue through the year.
