The province has a new justice in the Supreme Court. Frances J. Knickle, the former director of public prosecutions with the Department of Justice and Public Safety, was sworn in this morning.
Madame Justice Knickle has prosecuted many high-profile trials during her career, and was designated as the spokesperson to explain the justice system as it relates to freedom of the press in situations such as the protest at Muskrat Falls last fall when a journalist was charged after entering the compound.
Justice Knickle fills a void on the bench created when Justice Handrigan retired. She will be based primarily in Happy Valley-Goose Bay but may be called upon to serve other areas.
Justice Minister Andrew Parsons says nobody has more passion for the law than Frances Knickle. He says in their Justice League, he was known as Batman and she as Batgirl.
