The Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association has released the schedule for the 2017 Molson Challenge Cup.
Six teams will vie for the top men’s soccer honour in the province, while the Canada Summer Games men’s team will play a reduced schedule.
The 78-game schedule opens on Saturday, May 13 with Holy Cross The Kirby Group taking on CBS That Pro Look 4pm at King George V field in St. John’s, while Fieldians start their season on the road, playing Corner Brook Steers Insurance in the west coast city at 6pm. Defending champions St. Lawrence Labatt Laurentians will take on Mount Pearl First Choice Haircutters at the Gushue Complex in Mount Pearl in a rematch of the 2016 Molson Challenge Cup final. The two teams will match up again June 17 as St. Lawrence stages its home opener at Centennial field in St. Lawrence. Fieldians will host the Canada Games Gerry O’Brien Financial Group in their home opener on Wednesday, May 24. The Canada Games team plays their first game Wednesday, May 17 in CBS.
The top four teams will advance to the Labour Day championship weekend September 1-3.
“Last year’s championship weekend was one for the ages,” said Damian Masterson, NLSA Senior Men’s Vice-President. “We saw fantastic competition from all teams throughout the season, and we know they will be ready to give it their all again this year.”
