There’s going to be a public meeting in Port Blandford next week to talk about plans to cut lumber for commercial purposes. Opponents say it amounts to clearcutting in an area which is more dependent on tourism than a forest industry.
Two commercial companies plan to harvest timber for sawmills in the immediate area, and the Goulds as well, as for firewood.
People who live in the area say they were unaware of the plans until recently, however, one of the operators says everything goes through the Department of Forestry.
The public meeting takes place Tuesday night at the Royal Canadian Legion.
