  • Flagperson All Too Familiar with Dangers of Road Work

A woman who has worked as a flagperson for the last eight years says her heart sank when she heard about the accident in Trinity Bay yesterday that claimed the life of a 54-year-old man.

The victim was a flagperson, working for a company contracted to do brush clearing on the stretch of highway between Heart’s Content and New Perlican. He was struck by a pickup yesterday morning and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Karen Parsons works with a road construction company in the St. John’s area and over the last eight years has witnessed accidents herself and plenty of near misses.

She’s had co-workers who have been struck by vehicles, and the news hits really close to home.

RCMP and Occupational Health and Safety are conducting an intensive investigation into an incident that claimed the life of a 54-year-old man.

The minister responsible for Workplace NL Sherry Gambin-Walsh is sending her thoughts to the family of the victim. She says the family is from her district.
