An RCMP officer rescued a pet dog who had fallen down a steep cliff, ending up at water’s edge this morning.
RCMP in Grand Falls-Windsor were called around 6:30 this morning by a person who lives near the Exploits River. Sometime overnight, his 15-year-old Chocolate Lab, Mocha, had strayed from the back yard and rolled down a 60-foot bank to the edge of the river.
Cst. Phil Vautour responded to the scene and made his way down the steep embankment. He located Mocha, who was alive but injured and unable to walk. Cst. Vautour comforted the dog, but the bank was too steep to carry him back up. He carried the 80-pound dog about 500 meters along the edge of the river, over rough terrain, to an area that was better accessible to the owner.
Mocha has been taken to the veterinarian by her owner for medical care.
