The son of an RCMP officer has been charged with dangerous driving and operating a vehicle without insurance after an incident in Upper Island Cove on June 1.
Brent Hillier Junior was allegedly driving a vehicle that was involved in a collision in the town.
The responding officer was his father, Sergeant Brent Hillier. RCMP the assigned Major Crimes to the investigation.
The accused will appear in Harbour Grace Provincial Court August 8.
On June 5, RCMP requested that the provincial government assign an external body to undertake an independent investigation relating to the responding officer. The RCMP says the request was made in the interest of transparency and public confidence. That investigation is ongoing.
