  • VIDEO Remembering the Cougar 491 Tragedy Nine Years Later

    The friends and family of those who lost their lives in the tragic Cougar Flight 491 crash, gathered this morning outside the Cougar hanger, where the helicopter departed on its last trip.

    Nine years ago today, at 9:48 a.m., Cougar flight 491 crashed off the coast of St. John’s, claiming the lives of seventeen people and leaving one survivor.

    Lori Chynn gathers each year to remember her husband John Pelley. Chynn says the is all about keeping the memory alive. She admits it is still difficult to cope with the loss.

    Alicia Nash lost her father Birch – she says after nine years it does not get any easier. Nash says she now has children who refer to her late father as Poppy Burch. She says he isn’t here to see him grow and after nine years, with milestones coming and going she says she really misses her father at the time.
