The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has yet to recover the loaded magazine from a service weapon lost during a foot pursuit early Thursday morning in the capital city’s east end.
Officers were following the track of a suspect in a reported break, enter and theft, a chase that took an hour an a half through some heavily-wooded and rough terrain.
A police service dog, a police handler and a patrol officer legged it through the brush and bog and residential backyards from the Logy Bay Road ramp of the Outer Ring Road to the Wedgewood Park area.
The dog lost the scent and when the chase ended, the patrol officer noticed that the magazine, containing 12 rounds of .40 caliber ammo, was missing from his service belt.
Efforts to locate the magazine by retracing their steps with the help of the service dog were unsuccessful, says RNC Constable James Cadigan.
Anyone who sees it is asked to contact the RNC immediately at 729-8000.
