Back to school is less than a month away and the RNC has a few tips for parents, students and drivers.
Cst. Colin Shaw says it’s a good time to start thinking about school safety as many are now on the move in preparation by acquiring supplies and outfitting children. His advice is to wear bright clothing and take the time to teach children crosswalk safety.
He says police will be paying special attention to school zones, watching for speeders an drivers who are focused on things other than driving, such as texting or talking on the cell phone.
He also reminds drivers not to pass a school bus that has its stop sign arm out, or its lights flashing.
Illegally passing a school bus can cost you six points and up to $1,200 in fines. No matter how many lanes are in the road, traffic in both directions must stop.
