  • VIDEO RNC Seek Culprits Believed Responsible for Series of Retail Break-Ins

Police have released a video of a daring smash and grab at a retail outlet on Hamlyn Road by a man and a woman. The theft is similar to others committed in the metro region.

The duo broke into Legend City on Hamlyn Road at about 2:30 Thursday morning by smashing the front window. CCTV footage shows a man and woman getting out of a black Jeep and making several trips through a large hole in the window to steal most of the merchandise in the store. The RNC believe it’s the same pair that was involved in two thefts from Arthur James at Coleman’s on Newfoundland Drive.

A man and woman are seen using tools in a recent break-in at a business on Newfoundland Drive.

The burned-out Jeep, which had been stolen from a St. John’s dealership, has since been located in the area of Grove’s Road. Footage from a nearby gas station shows a female passenger exiting the stolen Jeep with her face covered minutes before the vehicle was set on fire.

The female is seen approaching an older grey Pontiac G6 four-door with a male passenger who is seen purchasing gas in a gas can before proceeding in the same direction as the Jeep.

Police are reminding the public that possession of stolen property is a criminal offence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
