  • Robert Newell Found Guilty of Attempted Break-In at St. John’s Business

Self-represented repeat offender Robert Newell has been found guilty of an attempted break-in at a St John’s business.

Robert Newell appeared at the end of day today, a quick appearance, just long enough to hear the judge’s decision in the case.

Newell has been found guilty of an attempted break-in at Trico Ltd on Austin Street in St. John’s.

The facts say there was significant damage to the property. Two glass doors has been smashed, and the office was described as ransacked. Nothing was taken, but blood found in the reception area came back a match for Newell.

In handing down the decision, the judge began by telling Newell he did a good job representing himself and clearly had done his research. He told Newell he hopes he will use his skills once this matter is dealt with.

Newell was recently convicted of breaking into St. Pius X Church in St. John’s—he also represented himself in that case.

Both matters return to court in June to begin sentencing.
