The Health Care Foundation and VOCM Cares joined forces today to bring a special heart-pumping radiothon to the airwaves on the VOCM – Big Land FM Radio Network.
The Row 4 Heart challenge raised funds for cardiac care in the province. Teams of rowers worked towards purchasing a mechanical heart for the treatment of patients of Eastern Health in conjunction with the radiothon taking donations on the air and online.
Eastern Health’s Dr. Daniel Lodge says the piece of equipment is portable, allowing greater ease for patients to be flown to the mainland for live-saving procedures.
From the get-go the donations came in fast and furious, including a $1,000 donation from VOCM Cares’ presented by Miranda Antle.
As of 1:00 p.m. today, when the radiothon wrapped up, the total raised was over $70,000. The Health Care Foundation’s Paul Snow was pleased with the success of the effort.
