  • Royal Newfoundland Regimental Gallery Unveiled at the Rooms

After today’s parade to the Memorial the focus turned to the Rooms and the unveiling of the new Royal Newfoundland Regimental Gallery.

Children, families, seniors and veterans crowded into the newly opened courtyard and amphitheater to reflect and watch as Princess Anne opened the new permanent exhibit.

The commemoration included music and song, with a special rendition of the Ode to Newfoundland composed for this day.

Premier Dwight Ball saluted the past and present Regiment, saying their return to the site of Fort Townsend proved the phrase “Where once they stood we stand.”

MP Seamus O’Regan gave an impassioned address, warning to not let the tragedy of Beaumont Hamel overshadow the accomplishments and bravery of the men who fought and died willingly.

The gallery itself is a collection of artifacts and photos, some never before seen, that will be free and open to the public starting tomorrow.
