The president of the province’s Salmonid Association is concerned salmon farms will kill the province’s salmon rivers.
Don Hutchings was responding to government’s announcement on aquaculture this week, and a plan to implement actions to boost the industry and jobs in the province. That includes fish farming.
Hutchings says it’s clearly known that fin-fish farms established in the ocean, close to wild Atlantic salmon rivers, have decimated the populations in those rivers. He says you need only look to other jurisdictions.
He questions if government is willing to destroy our wild Atlantic salmon population, says that’s not sustainability.
