The neighbourhood of Shea Heights is celebrating a provincial basketball milestone.
The St. John Bosco Grade 9 Boys Basketball Team won the Boys ‘A’ Grade 9 Provincial Tournament this weekend, capturing the school’s fourth provincial basketball title of the year.
The grade 5, 6 and 7 teams also won this season.
With a school of just over 200 students, the grade 9 team has only four grade 9 boys, with the rest made up of grade 7 and 8 students, and even one grade 6. The Eagles lost their first two games of the tournament but battled back to win three straight games to capture the provincial championship.
Four of the grade 9 players, Chris Druken, Joshua Watson, Tyler Jordan and Aaron Earl also received tournament MVP honours.
Aaron Earl says the MVP win, doesn’t top the championship. He says it feels good to win MVP, but it feels better to win provincials. In his last year as an Eagle, it feels great to win.
A motorcade took place around the neighbourhood to celebrate.
