The St. John’s Regional Fire Department is advising people that Health Canada has issued a consumer product recall on line voltage thermostats under various brand names.
The list includes Garrison, Maison, Noma, Rona and UPM.
There is a concern that the units may overheat, creating smoke and causing damage to the wall, posing a fire hazard.
There have been 26 reports of incidents from consumers and retailers concerning overheating units. No injuries have been reported.
If you have one of the units in question you’re asked to contact the retailer where you bought them as the importer is no longer in business. The thermostats should be removed and discarded.
