  • Snook’s Arm Takes Resettlement

It hasn’t garnered the attention of places like Little Bay Islands or William’s Harbour, but a community on the Baie Verte Peninsula quietly resettled over the winter.

The resettlement of 16 permanent residents of Snook’s Arm, near Tilt Cove and LaScie, was officially completed in February.

The residents applied for government assistance to relocate in 2013 and 15 residents voted 100 percent in favour of resettlement in September of 2016.

Resettlement, the provincial government’s community relocation program, is community-led and enables householders to receive funding to relocate if certain criteria are met. While residents can keep their properties as seasonal residences, all services, like electricity, ferry and road maintenance are discontinued.
