People piled into the brand new Farmers Market on Freshwater Road in St. John’s this morning for a peek at the spacious surroundings.
It took six years, but the Market finally opened this morning. It has much more floor space, seating capacity and stalls, and every inch of the building is accessible. There’s plenty of parking next door at the Taxation Centre.
Not too long ago, the organization overseeing the market could inventory the things they owned on a single page. Not anymore.
Chairman Josh Smee has seen a lot of such operations across Canada and calls the St. John’s market one of the best for a small city.
The three levels of government gave money to help the project along.
Mayor Danny Breen noted that even Mother Nature cooperated.
The market will be open Saturday and Wednesday year-round.
