It’s last call for a landmark corner store that’s served the capital city for 60 years.
An emotional day as Freshwater Road staple Stockwood’s Bakery and Deli has set its last day of operation as next Tuesday, March 27th.
More than a convenience store, Stockwood’s served meals and baked cakes and bread for generations, even hosting an ice cream parlour for a time. It was also one of the first businesses in town to offer 24-hour service.
Marylin Curtis, daughter of the store’s founder, announced the closure late last year with the intent to sell the business. While there has been some interest, with the Freshwater Road location close to both the Kenmount and Memorial University areas, there have as yet been no buyers.
