Fire crews were called to the scene of a house fire on Topsail Road on Tuesday afternoon.
Acting Platoon Chief Barry Burke with St. John’s Regional Fire Department says the house was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.
The neighbour of 1461 Topsail Road noticed the fire and alerted authorities. He also alerted a male tenant who was sleeping in the basement at the time, who got out of the house unharmed.
There are tenants living upstairs, but they were not home at the time.
The bungalow is all but destroyed. The fire broke through the roof and after crews knocked down the initial blaze, they concentrated their efforts on the neighbouring properties.
Burke says both homes on either side received some damage—the siding is melted from the homes, and the the door of one of the homes was kicked open to allow it to air out.
The RNC closed a portion of Topsail Road, from Trails End Drive to Sunvalley Drive, while crews tended to the scene.

Burke says the heat today was the biggest hurdle for firefighters on scene, but he says everyone is OK.
There is currently no word on what caused the fire.
