Automated garbage collection bins have been delivered to many residences in the capital city as it moves closer to introducing the new waste collection method.
Ward 4 councillor Ian Froude says they have received a number of questions from city residents about the new black bins, wondering if they could blow over in strong winds.
He says the bins are designed not to roll when they are knocked over, and discourages residents from putting rocks in the bins to weigh them down. The bin will be turned bottom up by the arm of the truck and rocks in the bottom will tumble out, potentially damaging equipment.
The bins remain the property of the city, but remain the responsibility of the assigned household.
