A delegation from Sweden is in Central Newfoundland this week to tour the Exploits River area and learn more about how Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is helping to protect salmon stocks.
Manager of Generation with Hydro, Wilmore Eddy says the delegation has been throughout the area looking at various fish ladders and dams.
He says the 15 member Swedish delegation has toured the Exploits, Newfoundland Power’s installation in the Norris Arm area, and Compensation Creek, a part of the Granite Canal development.
Olle Calles is the lead with the Swedish delegation. He says aside from taking in some fabled Newfoundland hospitality, they’re also learning a lot about how Hydro officials have been able to improve salmon populations even on rivers with major installations.
