  • Tree Felled Onto Line Knocks Out Power to Parts of St. John’s

A tree-trimming incident resulted in power outages in the St. John’s-Kilbride area late Thursday afternoon.

The VOCM Newsroom received several phone calls at around 4:30 p.m., reporting outages in their neighbourhoods.

Newfoundland Power dispatched crews to the area, reporting that the outage was caused by a customer felling a tree onto the power line.

At 5:12 p.m., NF Power tweeted a photo from the scene, showing branches of a tree resting on power lines near a residential area.

Newfoundland Power issued a reminder that cutting or trimming trees near power lines is dangerous. Instead of putting yourself at risk, power recommends calling them for help managing trees that are in proximity to power lines.

Electricity was restored to affected areas around 6:00 p.m., thanks to the quick response by power crews.
